A Successful Remodel begins with a great plan

We begin creating your dream basement from our first visit. We listen to understand your needs and features that will be included in the remodel. We offer suggestions on ways to add value to your home and to make sure the final design works for you and your family now and into the future as needs, entertainment and family situations evolve.

Framing wall and ceiling obstructions

Your new basement will begin with precise framing on all exterior walls and room partitions. We prefer wood studs for support and rigidity. Nearly all basement ceilings have obstructions like beams and ducts, and wood walls and soffits maximizes support for future items like cabinets and wall mounted TV's.

Electrical features and upgrades

Proper lighting and fixture spacing transforms your basement into a cozy and functional space. At the request of our customers over the years, we automatically include dimmer switches on all lights for set the perfect mood or workspace. Outlets are not only spaced for code requirements, but in expected locations for TV's, pool tables, and art displays.

Insulation options

While several options are available to insulate your basement, we prefer R-13 fiberglass insulation faced with a vapor barrier. It provides advantages over foam boards glued to foundation wall and offers nearly 3X R-value ratings at less than 1/2 the cost.

Drywall walls and ceilings

Drywall added to all finished walls and ceilings provide a seamless extension of your home. It provides the tallest possible ceilings, protection from insects that enter the home from tiny openings between the framing and foundation, and is the quietest product to limit noise between the first floor and basement areas. There are a lot of other products for walls and ceilings that are marketed as speciality use that in many cases are quicker and easier for the contractor, not necessarily what will look and perform in your basement.

Paint, Trim, and finish

Kingsmill offers precision painting, we match existing door profiles and all trim details to transform your home from having a "basement" to a highly functional customized "lower level"

Flooring

Flooring options include carpet, laminates, epoxy, and tile/brick. The most common trend are laminate floors often referred to as, click together flooring, LVT (Luxury vinyl tile), LVL, or simply luxury vinyl. The new patterns offer a wide variety of colors and styles, most are completely waterproof and carry a 30 year to lifetime warranty.

Options, upgrades, and accessories.

There is perhaps no other spaces in your home to be as creative with design and build options that what is available in a basement remodel / finish. New spaces to be created include everything from custom bathrooms, bars, egress windows, fireplaces, gyms, offices, craft areas, gun and safe rooms, theaters, offices and one of a kind millwork upgrades.
